Geriatric Emergency Room (GEM) & Emergency Preparedness

Emergency departments are increasingly challenged with the complexities of providing care for older adults. In response, Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, has introduced dedicated Geriatric Emergency Medicine (GEM) units. Sreedar Raja, MD, FACEP, FACHE Director of Emergency Medicine, Monmouth Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, will explain the benefits of the GEM Unit, recognizing the signs of an emergency, the differences between an urgent care clinic versus an emergency room, and knowing when an ER visit is necessary. Health Educators Kelly Deleon, M.S., and Claire Verruni, RN, will discuss emergency preparedness with tips for building first aid and emergency kits, specifically for older adults.

Refreshments will be served. This event will take place at the Ocean County Library, Manchester Branch, 21 Colonial Drive, Manchester.
