Learning Objectives

  • After the session, the participants will be able to:
  • Assess current spinal surgery treatment including minimally invasive options and review procedural instrumentation.
  • Examine the current methods for treatment of brain tumors including minimally invasive open surgery and radiosurgery using Cyber Knife.
  • Describe management of acute seizures and treatment options in the adult and pediatric population and current treatment options for surgical intervention in the pediatric population.
  • Identify the role of the nurse practitioner in the neurosurgical patient.
  • Illustrate the need for rapid evaluation and planning for care including implementation of nursing assessments and treatment plans appropriate for stroke and subarachnoid hemorrhage in the acute care setting.
  • Evaluate indications for surgical treatment for Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders.
  • Compare the current paradigms for choice of treatment of metastatic spine tumors from minimally invasive to complex spine reconstructions.
  • Summarize the ICU management of patients with stroke and subarachnoid hemorrhage.
  • Specify available surgical treatments of patients with trigeminal neuralgia.
