Blood and Platelet Drive – Livingston, NJ

While the extremely critical nature of the national blood shortage experienced earlier this year has started to ease, hospitals are still experiencing very low availability of certain blood types and products. The inventory of Type O positive and Type O negative blood remains lower than optimal. Additionally, the availability of single donor platelets is very limited; patients can experience waits of up to 24 hours for routine outpatient transfusions of these precious products.

Platelet donation unlike a whole blood donation is an automated process. It is completely safe but it takes longer and the criteria to be a platelet donors is somewhat different than for whole blood. Most importantly, platelets are only viable for a short 5 days from the time of collection. Replenishing the supply on a daily basis is a necessity.

Help CBMC reach our goal of collecting 40 units of blood and 4 units of single donor platelets by making an appointment. Please visit bit.ly/3KhboSq or call Melanie Farris in the Pathology Department at 973-322-8273 or the Blood Services Department at 732-235-8100, ext. 221 or 248.

If you cannot personally donate, encourage your colleagues, our patient families and friends to support.

There will be raffle prize chances and meal vouchers for all donors.
