John J. Nance is a nationally renowned patient safety expert. He brings a rich and varied professional background to the task of helping doctors, administrators, boards, and front-line staff thrive in the current health care environment. He was a founder of the National Patient Safety Foundation in 1997. His efforts (and health care publications) are dedicated to reforming American Healthcare from a reactive cottage industry to an effective and safe system of prevention and wellness. A lawyer, Air Force and airline pilot, prolific internationally-published author, national broadcaster, and renown professional speaker, John’s leadership is propelled by a deep commitment to patient safety and quality.

Shamkant Mulgaonkar, MD, was one of the preeminent professionals in kidney transplantation in the United States. He was instrumental in the rapid growth of kidney transplantation and championed the development of the Living Donor Transplant Institute. He was a dynamic leader who cared for thousands of kidney transplant recipients since the 1970s. He is largely responsible for the success of the RWJBarnabas Health Renal and Pancreas Transplant Division being one of the most highly-regarded programs in the United States.

A pioneer in patient safety at SBMC, Dr. Mulgaonkar’s passion and commitment were indefatigable as evidenced by the systems and processes he implemented throughout his tenure.
