Akiva P. Novetsky, MD
- Gynecologic Oncology | OB/GYN | Surgery-Oncology
Prior to joining Rutgers Cancer Institute and RWJBarnabas Health, I treated women with gynecologic malignancies at Montefiore Medical Center in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women’s Health, Division of Gynecologic Oncology. My expertise in minimally invasive surgical procedures for gynecologic tumors provides women with smaller incisions and quicker recovery time. I completed a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis following the completion of my residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at NYU Medical center. I completed my medical degree and master’s degree in clinical research methods at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
I have been the principal investigator on multiple national studies in both the treatment and prevention of gynecologic malignancies as well as a number of investigator-initiated clinical trials. I am also the recipient of the Paul Calabresi career development award from the National Institutes of Health for my work on improving outcomes in women undergoing treatment for gynecologic malignancies.
One focus area of my research has been screening for and prevention of infections with the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), the virus that is necessary for the development of cervical cancer. My research has resulted in more than thirty peer-reviewed papers and multiple presentations at national and international conferences and workshops.
I currently serve as a reviewer for several professional journals including Gynecologic Oncology and American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. I serve on and chair multiple national committees within the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology.
I look forward to providing my patients with the most advanced treatment options including the use of clinical trials and precision medicine where we can tailor cancer treatment to individual tumor profiling.
