A Message from Darrell K. Terry, President and Chief Executive Officer of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey

Darrell K TerryHello, I am Darrell K. Terry, President and Chief Executive Officer of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey. On behalf of the entire Medical Center family, I am pleased to welcome you as a new employee. You can be proud that you have been selected to be part of our team as well as a member of RWJBarnabas Health – the largest health care provider in the state of New Jersey.

You have shown that you possess the skills and share in the core values that are essential to our success. We are dedicated to providing high quality health care; to ensuring patient, physician and employee satisfaction; and to responsible financial management, execution and sustainability.

As a member of our staff, you now represent Newark Beth Israel Medical Center – or “The Beth” as it is affectionately called – and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey. This means that you are part of a long tradition of exceeding our community’s highest expectations for exceptional health care. Established as a teaching hospital in 1901, The Beth and also Children’s Hospital have become major referral and treatment centers for patients throughout the northern New Jersey metropolitan area.

We are one of two hospitals in New Jersey where heart transplants are performed and the only hospital in New Jersey certified to perform lung transplants. The excellence of our Medical Staff and our employees coupled with our superior standard of care, are positioning us for a successful future.

Children's Hospital of New Jersey is the state's premier children's health facility, providing state-of-the-art care in an atmosphere of caring and warmth. Extraordinary medical care is delivered by medical and surgical specialists who are all dedicated exclusively to children's health. Treating ill and injured children from newborn to adolescent years, Children's Hospital also initiates preventive programs that promote wellness in the community.

We are known for many programs and services that truly set us apart. I know you will be as proud as I am when someone you meet says, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center? Isn’t that the home of Children’s Hospital of New Jersey? Or, when you are told, my relative had heart surgery or my baby was born at The Beth. Among many programs, we are home to:

  • New Jersey's most comprehensive Robotic Surgery Center

  • Frederick B. Cohen, M.D., Comprehensive Cancer and Blood Disorders Center

  • And, our Children’s Hospital offers a variety of centers of excellence, including:
    • The Children's Heart Center with comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services

We believe that each employee is responsible for creating the Newark Beth experience. From the moment our patients arrive in our facility until they are safely discharged, each and every employee plays an important role in creating a healing environment for all of our patients.

Imagine entering a large medical center, unsure of where you need to go in the facility and feeling very vulnerable about your health or the health of a loved one. The first person who welcomes you at the front door is a friendly security guard who offers guidance, if requested. He or she has made a definite impression that will last and be enhanced by courteous treatment from employees in the Admitting Department and the Volunteer who escorts you to your room.

Remember, all of these interactions have taken place and made a positive impression before you have even seen your physician or nurse. Clearly, our medical professionals are the anchors of our team. But every single employee plays an integral role as ambassador of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. We take pride in our employees and expect them to share in our commitment to deliver the finest health care in the State of New Jersey.

I welcome you and I wish you success.
