Advanced Pediatric Surgery
The Center for Advanced Pediatric Surgery at The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is dedicated exclusively to advanced pediatric surgery for ages newborn to 21.
The Center's design creates a comforting environment for children and their families and features a 400-square-foot operating suite, 250-square-foot operating suite, four 600-square-foot operating suites, five private recovery rooms, ten recovery bays, and a sun room for short-term waiting.
A Team of Experts
Our board-certified surgeons work within a professional team to develop a thorough initial evaluation, devise an individualized treatment plan, perform the necessary operation(s), and implement follow-up care. Specialized pediatric anesthesiologists are an important component of the team, which ensures greater safety for our young patients.

Preparing the Patient and Family for Surgery
Our commitment to exceptional care extends to the education of children and their families to help them to choose treatment options and prepare them for the surgery experience. Prior to and during the scheduled surgery, members of our Child Life Program work with children and families to ease anxiety using a variety of techniques.
Training the Next Generation of Surgeons
We are a teaching hospital; our surgeons are actively engaged in the education of medical students, surgical and pediatric residents. In addition, many of our surgeons actively participate in clinical research to continuously improve surgical treatment and supportive care.
