May 21, 2021 New Bariatric Support Group To Begin June 8

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset has launched a new bariatric support group for individuals who have had bariatric surgery as well as those who are considering bariatric surgery. The support group will meet virtually on the second Tuesday of each month from 6 to 7 p.m. beginning June 8.

The support group will be facilitated by Tia Hagins, a registered dietitian who is the hospital’s community nutritionist and has specialized training in adult weight management with nearly 20 years of experience working with bariatric patients. The group will discuss topics such as healthy meal ideas; mindful eating; emotional eating; the importance of exercise; surviving the holidays; smart shopping and eating healthy while dining out.

Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset has been recognized as a Center of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation. The hospital’s Bariatric Surgery Program comprises a multi-disciplinary team of experts, including experienced surgeons, nutritionists and nurses specially trained in the care of bariatric patients. Patients receive customized treatment plans that incorporate everything needed for successful weight loss, from pre-operative education and testing to advanced therapies, minimally invasive surgical techniques and support services.
