Babs Siperstein PROUD Center Welcomes New Medical Director

RWJBarnabas Health Medical Group welcomes Sameh Abdelaal, MD, as Medical Director of the Babs Siperstein PROUD Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. The center, located at 128 Rehill Ave, Suite 1100, Somerville, which is open 5 days a week, also includes an advanced practice nurse and patient navigator.

Dr. Abdelaal is board-certified in internal medicine and infectious disease. He received his medical degree from Alexandra University in Alexandra, Egypt and completed his residency at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He went on to complete his fellowship at Columbia University-Harlem Hospital Center, New York.

Dr. Abdelaal has a passion for making a difference to the underserved and marginalized. As an advocate for the well-being of the LGBTQIA community, he promotes and supports complete patient autonomy. “I want my patients to be happy, and for that, I need them to be healthy,” he says.

The Babs Siperstein PROUD Center, which opened in 2017, was the first in New Jersey to provide specialized primary care services for the LGBTQIA community. Services include hormone therapy and monitoring; HIV care; referrals for specialty services; health education and counseling.
