Richard Freeman, President and CEO of RWJ University Hospital Hamilton

I’m Richard Freeman, President and CEO of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton. Now that the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in New Jersey has passed, we at the hospital are starting to resume services that may have stopped or slowed during that period of time.

We wanted to make sure that we were following all the guidelines put out by the Governor. I know and I recognize that sometimes your family members – or you – may be a little bit nervous about coming into our hospital, and I’m here to talk about what we’ve done and continue to do to make sure that we are the safest hospital for you in the state of New Jersey.

As a high reliability organization with a track record of quality and safety, safety comes first in everything we do. We were recognized this spring with our ninth Leapfrog safety quality grade “A.” Let me show you some of the additional measures we’ve taken to protect our patients, caregivers, physicians, and staff.

We are cleaning and disinfecting all rooms, including equipment and surfaces with even more stringent protocols than ever before. We have also grown our ultraviolet disinfectant capabilities with additional Tru-D robots which offer cutting-edge technology for an additional layer of clean throughout our facilities.

Strict hand hygiene is practiced here at the hospital. Hand sanitizers are available at all employee and patient areas. All team members, patients, and visitors, when permitted, are actively screened for symptoms upon entering any of our facilities. They are required to wear a mask or face covering. And for the protection of our patients and staff, we are continuing with our enhanced safety and visitors policies. Visit our website on our up-to-date information on our policies.

Your care is too important to wait. If you put off testing, visits, or procedures, now is the time to reschedule. Effective immediately, our primary care express on Quakerbridge Road, as well as all our primary care offices, are open for in-person visits as appropriate, with all precautions in place.

If you prefer to stay home, our primary care and specialty physicians, as well as our physical rehab team, are available through Telemed services on your smart phone or tablet. And if you’re experiencing symptoms of a heart attack, stroke, or other medical emergency, call 911 or visit the emergency department. Don’t wait. Minutes matter. Our ED is completely safe, and ready to care for you. You’ve taken every precaution to keep yourself and your loved ones safe. So have we. On behalf of the RWJ Hamilton family, welcome back.
