Tips for Handling Holiday Stress

The holiday season can be full of joy! However, it can also be filled with the stress of planning and buying. This season, try slowing down and incorporating some of these techniques to combat holiday stress:

  1. Take a personal day!
  2. Treat yourself. Buy something for yourself, watch a movie or exercise.
  3. Pick one or two holiday events to attend, instead of trying to fit them all in.
  4. Stretch the season. Try scheduling events in January to make the season last longer, and ease the business of December.
  5. Try giving gifts you can’t buy, such as donations in someone’s name or homemade gifts.
  6. Don’t overspend! Give yourself a budget ahead of time and stick to it.
  7. Go gadget-free. Turn off the electronics during the next holiday get together.
  8. Forget perfection. Stop thinking you need to do it all and focus on enjoying the people in your life.
  9. Abandon old customs. Try incorporating a new culture’s customs or start new traditions.

Finally, remember the true reason we celebrate the holidays and reaffirm what the holidays mean to you.
