An A Rating from Leapfrog Group

Leapfrog Hospital Safety A GradeMonmouth Medical Center Southern Campus was awarded an “A” Hospital Safety Score rating by the Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits.

“We are honored to be recognized for an “A” rating in Safety and continue our journey of high reliability and outcomes for our patients and their families,” said Frank J. Vozos, MD, FACS, Chief Executive, Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus and Executive Vice President, RWJBarnabas Health. “Our patients’ safety is what matters most, and I am proud of our continued commitment to accreditation and to positive outcomes as reflected in this accomplishment.”

Updated twice a year, in the spring and in the fall, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital rating focused exclusively on hospital safety. Its A, B, C, D or F letter grades are an easy way for consumers to choose the safest hospital to seek care and have quickly become the gold standard measure of patient safety. Developed under the guidance of a Blue-Ribbon National Expert Panel, the Safety Grade assigns letter grades based on a hospital’s performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms.

The Leapfrog Group is a national watchdog organization focused on health care safety and quality. Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

“‘A’ hospitals show us their leadership is protecting patients from preventable medical harm and error,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes genuine commitment at every level – from clinicians to administrators to the board of directors – and we congratulate the teams who have worked so hard to earn this ‘A’.”
