"Peace of Mind" event will help renovate behavioral health facility
Mariel Hemingway Event Raises Over $255,000 for Trinitas
On Tuesday, October 29, Trinitas Health Foundation and Trinitas Regional Medical Center hosted its second Annual "Peace of Mind" Event at The Park Savoy Estate in Florham Park.
Special guests included actress, author and Behavioral Health Advocate, Mariel Hemingway, and Award-Winning Journalist Jack Ford.
Thanks to the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, the Philanthropist Sponsor, numerous guests, sponsors and supporters, the Foundation netted over $255,000. To date, the "Peace of Mind" Campaign, which was developed in an effort to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental illness, has raised more than $4 million that will fund renovations of behavioral health facilities at Trinitas.
More than 230 guests enjoyed a private VIP reception with Mariel and Jack, received a signed copy of Mariel Hemingway’s book, "Out Came the Sun," networked with other mental health advocates during a cocktail reception, and listened to an informative discussion on overcoming the legacy of mental illness, addiction, and suicide in the family. Mariel spoke openly and honestly about growing up in a family plagued by illness. She shared how she dealt with the Hemingway family's legacy of mental illness and how it shaped her into the person she is today - an advocate for wellness, mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
"It’s a passion of mine to talk about mental health because I think everybody deals with it," says Mariel, who is currently working on hosting and producing a series for the prevention of suicide. "We all have a connection to it. But there's a lack of understanding of what mental health is. Trinitas is the only hospital in New Jersey with a mental health facility within the hospital. That is rare, not only in the state, but in the country."
For nearly 20 years, Trinitas has served as a leading provider of behavioral health and psychiatry services.
"We are so very grateful to everyone who has contributed to the 'Peace of Mind' campaign, which has been extremely successful on several counts," says Nadine Brechner, Chief Development Officer and Vice President of the Trinitas Health Foundation. "Reaching our financial goal will mean that we can upgrade our facilities to match the expert care that we offer. It's important to us to know that patients feel valued and comfortable during the time they spend here with us. We want them to think of it as a home away from home during their recovery process.”
