NEWARK, NJ (May 10, 2019) On Wednesday, May 8, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, hosted its 15th Annual Celebrating Newark: Partners in Progress awards dinner at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. The annual dinner and awards ceremony honors individuals and institutions who have demonstrated a steadfast commitment to a healthier Newark. Proceeds from the dinner benefit the medical center’s community outreach initiatives.

“It is a distinct privilege to celebrate Marc E. Berson this year and to present him with a Lifetime Award. He has been a profound influence at Newark Beth Israel and RWJBarnabas Health as a Chairman who truly values our role as an anchor institution in Newark. Under his leadership, we created the Partners in Progress Awards dinner 15 years ago in order to provide a forum for collaboration in the City of Newark,” said Darrell K. Terry, Sr., MHA, MPH, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey. “Marc’s leadership is inspiring and together we are raising the bar for providing quality patient care, specialty medical services, and improving the economic, social and physical health of the community that we serve.”

Partners in Progress Honoree:

Marc E. Berson, Chairman, The Fidelco Group, Vice Chair, Board of Trustees, RWJBarnabas Health; Chair, Board of Trustees, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey. Marc E. Berson is a dedicated and established entrepreneur, lawyer, and philanthropist with a focus in real estate development and operating manufacturing and service businesses. He has been Chairman of The Fidelco Group and of the Fidelco Realty Group since founded in 1981. Mr. Berson is also dedicated to serving the community through his involvement in numerous nonprofit and community organizations, especially in Newark. He has played an integral role in supporting some of the city's key institutions, reflecting his long-time belief in and support of Newark's resurgence. Mr. Berson's contributions and service have been recognized with numerous honors and awards including NJPAC Chambers Award for Service to the Community and Arts; Newark Beth Israel Medical Center's Partners in Progress Corporate Award; the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark Award for Caring; the Newark Little League Larry Doby Community Service Award; Essex County's "Star of Essex" Award; the New Jersey Institute of Social Justice Corporate Leadership Award, and the Rutgers School of Law- Newark Distinguished Alumni Award.

Partners in Progress, is Newark Beth Israel’s most celebrated fundraising event. Every year, approximately 500 business, community and medical leaders from the Greater Newark area come together to promote the advancement of Newark, New Jersey. Proceeds from the event will benefit Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey’s community outreach initiatives, such as Women’s Health Day, Men’s Health Night, The Beth Greenhouse, The Hire Newark: Employment Ready Boot Camp and wellness initiatives throughout the city.

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, is a 665-bed regional care teaching hospital that provides comprehensive health care.
