Delivering Culturally Competent Care

On May 15, 2019, Robert Wood Johnson University (RWJUH) Hospital New Brunswick and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School hosted the New Jersey Conference for Transgender Care: Delivering Culturally Competent Care in the hospital’s Courtyard.

Clinicians representing a broad range of disciplines and community advocates came together to share insights and best practices for delivering culturally competent care for the LGBTQ community.

The event featured a keynote address by Anne Koch, DMD, Transgender Physician and Advocate, along with panel discussions led by expert clinicians and community advocates. The topic of Dr. Koch’s address was “Treating the Transgender Patient: A Personal Narrative.”

In addition, Andy Anderson, MD, MBA, Chief Executive Officer, Combined Medical Group, RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers University, presented “Transgender Culturally Competent Care in the Large Health System” via video.

The medical providers discussed “Delivering Culturally Competent Clinical Care” while community advocates addressed the subject of “Creating Culturally Competent Environments: Policy, Advocacy and Education,” during their panel.
