Ongoing efforts can have a lasting impact

As part of an ongoing commitment to encourage students to learn more about important health topics, groups of professionals from Trinitas Regional Medical Center participated in the 12th Annual Healthy Leap Into Summer Expo held at Elizabeth High School.

The event, created in collaboration between Trinitas and the Gateway Regional Chamber of Commerce, tasked the participating organizations with focusing on teen obesity. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, this event is the largest teen obesity awareness event of its kind in the country.

For Trinitas, nurses from our Department of Education, Training and Development created an interesting presentation to help students understand food labeling and things that are in their food that may be wise to avoid.

Representatives from Trinitas Children's Therapy Services were also on hand with a display that featured a Jenga-type puzzle that helped highlight how sensitive certain motor skills are in relation to particular tasks.

Staffers from the Trinitas Cancer Center provided information on obesity and cancer, and how reducing one's weight can play an important role in preventing cancer, and what services we offer for those who develop cancer and need treatment.

For Trinitas, this type of educational outreach is a year-round effort. As part of our mission, we provide dozens of lectures, seminars, health fairs, and we participate in many other co-branded events with like-minded community groups designed to help people learn more so they can be empowered to help themselves.
