About Quarters 4 Meds
RWJUH’s Quarters 4 Meds campaign encourages employees and members of the community to fill empty prescription vials with quarters. The funds are then collected and donated to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Foundation’s Medication Assistance Fund to benefit patients who lack the necessary insurance coverage to afford their medicine.
The idea for Q4MEDS came from RWJUH Care Transitions Director Andrew Thomas who said, “I noticed that a quarter fits perfectly in the vial. As I dropped more quarters into the vial, you could fit a total of 40 quarters in each vial, which is the equivalent of $10.”
To the average person, $10 may not seem like much, but for someone without insurance and in need of medicine, it can cover the cost of two months’ worth of essential, life-sustaining prescription medications.
