Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset has once again been rated among the top hospitals in New Jersey in the annual hospital rankings released today by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital ranked 9th in the state overall and 22nd in the New York Metro region. It was also recognized as “high performing” in orthopedics.
The U.S. News & World Report listing is considered to be the nation’s most prestigious hospital ranking system. Criteria for the rankings include survival and readmission rates; patient experience; physician surveys; safety measures; and the quality of nursing care.
“This ranking is great news for our community, who can be assured that they are receiving the highest quality care in a safe environment close to home,” said Tony Cava, president and chief executive officer, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. “It is a testament to our entire team of physicians, nurses and staff whose commitment to excellence and passion for caring are truly extraordinary.”
Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset was recognized by the Leapfrog Group in 2018 as a Top Small Teaching Hospital – one of only 53 in the nation. This spring it received its eighth “A” Patient Safety Score from the Leapfrog Group. In addition, it has received Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award, ranking in the top 5 percent in the nation for patient safety.
Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset has been distinguished in the area of orthopedics. In 2018, the hospital was recertified by The Joint Commission, the nation’s largest health accreditation agency, for total hip and total knee replacement surgery, earning its Gold Seal of Approval. The hospital’s Joint Surgery Program offers a comprehensive approach to care, including pre-operative education, rehabilitation that begins on the day of surgery, an opioid-free pain relief system and a joint care coordinator, a registered nurse who facilitates all aspects of a patient’s care from pre-operative education through discharge.
