A beautiful tradition carries on at Trinitas
The first baby of 2019 was born at Trinitas Regional Medical Center today at 1PM, as Elizabeth residents Rosa Serrano de Orellana and Jose Alfredo Orellana arrived at Trinitas' Labor & Delivery Unit around 11:30AM after Rosa started experiencing stronger contractions, which began at 5AM. When she was examined by Certified Nurse Midwife Shanaya Recalde, she was already eight centimeters dilated. Within a matter of minutes, Rosa was rushed to a labor room, where she was admitted and coached through her labor pains, hoping for a natural delivery.
At 1PM, she got her wish as Recalde helped deliver a 6-pound, 13-ounce healthy baby boy, who is 19 ¾ inches long, with no pain medication. His name is Cristofer Orellana Serrano.
"We at Trinitas are super-excited for them," says Recalde. "They were extremely nice and very happy about the news that their baby was the first to be born in the New Year. And now their four year-old daughter has a baby brother."
