Highlighting its nationally recognized achievements in patient safety and quality, Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC) was named a Top Hospital nationally by The Leapfrog Group. The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive.
Out of thousands of hospitals considered for the award, Saint Barnabas Medical Center was one of 55 to receive a Top Teaching Hospital distinction. The Top Hospital Award comes following the hospital’s 16th consecutive “A” Hospital Safety Grade, also from The Leapfrog Group.
“Saint Barnabas Medical Center remains devoted to serving as a leader that promotes transparency and the sharing of best practices to continuously improve patient safety and the quality of health care services delivered by our hospital.” said Stephen P. Zieniewicz, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer of Saint Barnabas Medical Center. “We’re honored to be named a Top Teaching Hospital and I congratulate our dedicated physicians, nurses, and the entire staff.”
Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, practices for safer surgery, maternity care, and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.
“We are pleased to recognize Saint Barnabas Medical Center as a 2019 Leapfrog Top Hospital,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO, The Leapfrog Group. “This demonstrates extraordinary dedication to patients and to the Livingston, NJ community. We congratulate the board, staff and clinicians whose efforts made this honor possible and know they share pride in this achievement.”
To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must rank top among peers in the 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses hospital performance on the highest known standards for quality and patient safety, and achieve top performance in its category.
