Michael Valendo, MSN, RN, NE-BC, CEN of Fords has been named Vice President, Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer for Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, an RWJBarnabas Health facility. Valendo has served as the hospital’s acting Chief Nursing Officer for the past six months. He joined Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in July 2018 as Assistant Vice President of Nursing.
Valendo previously worked as an Assistant Vice President for Nursing and Patient Services at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick and has an extensive background in emergency services and trauma services as well as experience in leadership of inpatient units.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in nursing from LaSalle University in Philadelphia and his master’s degree in nursing at Thomas Edison State College in Trenton.
With more than 600 nurses, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset is a two-time recipient of the Magnet® Award for Nursing Excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Only 8 percent of hospitals nationwide have earned this recognition.
