Aug 9, 2019 Donate Blood in August and Golf for Free

All blood donors at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset during the month of August will receive a golf pass valid at Somerset County Parks Commission (SCPC) courses.

“It’s an August tradition and our most popular incentive of the year,” said Christia Keyte, blood services supervisor at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, an RWJBarnabas Health facility. “The timing couldn’t be better - summer donation shortages are challenging for hospital blood banks. This promotion encourages more donors to come in and helps us ensure that we have enough blood to meet our patients’ needs.”

"SCPC golf operations is proud to support Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset’s Blood Services and continue a partnership that has saved many lives in our community," said manager Ken Fivek.

The passes are good for a free round of golf through December 31, 2019 at the following Somerset County Parks courses: Green Knoll, Quail Brook, Spooky Brook and Warren Brook.

New and returning donors of all blood types are needed. Appointments at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset can be scheduled online at www.rwjuhdonorclub.org. The hospital’s blood donor room is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. with extended hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Walk-ins are welcome but strongly encouraged to call Blood Services at 908-685-2926 before arriving at the hospital. All donors are encouraged to eat well and hydrate before their visit.

Blood donors must be at least 18 years old (16 and 17 with parental consent), weigh 110 lbs. (120 lbs. if under 18) and feel well at the time of donation. Individuals with questions about medical and travel restrictions can call Blood Services at 908-685-2926.
