Continue to prioritize self-care this month. A few continuous acts of self-care can turn into healthy habits for the rest of your life.

Self-care is important because it is believed by many mental health professionals that caring for others begins with yourself. Just as on a plane you are supposed to put on your own oxygen mask first, in life and in health care, you can’t provide the most quality care you’re capable of if you don’t take care of yourself.

Continue your self-care journey with some of these tips:

  1. Make yourself a small plate at a gathering, and walk away. Eat the food slowly and enjoy it.
  2. Watch your favorite movie or an episode or two of your favorite TV show.
  3. Perform a random act of kindness – whether for a loved one or a stranger.
  4. Practice meditation. Don’t know how or where to start? Try out the Headspace app.
  5. Turn a negative thought into a positive one. Keep practicing that.
  6. Look or listen to the world around you and notice one thing that makes you smile.
