Spring is here, making it a wonderful time of year to take advantage of outdoor workouts. However, when you have allergies, exercising outdoors can be a challenge. Try a few of these tips to help you manage your allergies and still get exercise.
- Know Pollen Levels – There are different readings for different types of pollen and are rated throughout the day. Check The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology’s site to learn more.
- Watch The Clock – Different allergens can peak at different times during the day. Plan to workout when the allergen counts are lower. If you do go outside when it is high, wear a face mask and rinse your nose with saline.
- Watch The Sky – Avoid exercising on dry, warm and windy days which can lead to high pollen levels. High humidity can also make it harder to breathe.
- Listen To Your Body – If you are experiencing any side effects or fatigue in general or maybe from medication you are taking, limit your workouts to indoors.
- Take Your Meds Before Sneezing Begins – If you’re prone to allergies each spring, don’t wait until you have symptoms to take your allergy medicine, start taking it a few weeks before the season begins. Talk with your pharmacist or physician before taking any prescription or over the counter medications.
