Dietitians and Wellness Team at the Reverend Dr. Ronald B. Christian Community
Health & Wellness Center at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s
Hospital of New Jersey, RWJBarnabas Health facilities.

Heart-healthy diets are beneficial for everyone and are not as intimidating or boring
as they may sound. When it comes to heart health, there are a few key nutrients we
want to focus on, including saturated fat and sodium.

The American Heart Association recommends consuming less than 1,500 mg of sodium
per day for most adults, especially those with high blood pressure. However, the
average American consumes nearly three times that amount.
