Eating Disorders Program is One of Only Two Inpatient Programs in New Jersey
SOMERVILLE, NJ, March 20, 2018 – Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, recently welcomed Irina Benaur, MD, PhD and Darlene Osipuk, MD as co-medical directors of its Eating Disorders Program, which is one of only two inpatient eating disorders programs in New Jersey.
Dr. Benaur is a board-certified neurologist and psychiatrist with 15 years of experience in inpatient and outpatient treatment of patients with eating disorders.
She is a graduate of First Moscow Medical School in Russia where she also completed her neurology residency. She completed her psychiatric residency at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.
Prior to joining Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, Dr. Benaur served as medical director of the Eating Disorders Unit at the University Medical Center of Princeton and as an attending psychiatrist at Princeton House Behavioral Health, where she worked with eating disorders patients. She also maintains a private practice in Princeton.
Dr. Osipuk is a board-certified neurologist and psychiatrist with more than 30 years of experience in the treatment of eating disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Dr. Osipuk completed her psychiatric residency at New York University Medical Center. She is a graduate of the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (Rutgers Medical School) in Piscataway and completed her undergraduate studies at Douglas College, Rutgers University, in New Brunswick.
Prior to joining Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, Dr. Osipuk served as a psychiatrist with the Monte Nido & Affiliates residential Eating Disorders Program in New York, the Clementine adolescent residential Eating Disorders Program in New York and the Eating Disorders Program at the University Medical Center of Princeton. She also previously worked as an attending psychiatrist at Saint Clare’s Health System in Denville where she helped develop an inpatient eating disorders program. She is the former executive medical director of the Woman to Woman Health Care Program in Mountain Lakes. She also maintains a private practice in Mountain Lakes.
The Eating Disorders Program at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset has provided comprehensive medical care, including inpatient, partial hospitalization and outpatient services, for all types of eating disorders, including anorexia and bulimia, for more than 30 years. Patients are cared for by a multi-disciplinary team of physicians, psychiatrists, therapists, registered dietitians, nutritionists and nurses. Individual, group and family therapy are also offered by a licensed clinical social worker. Certified teachers are available for school-age patients undergoing extended treatment.
