Jun 11, 2018 Saint Barnabas Kidney Chain on NBC Today

Several kidney donors and recipients connected through Saint Barnabas Medical Center met for the first time on June 11, live on NBC’s Megyn Kelly Today Show.

The national broadcast featured a live segment on a kidney transplant chain at Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC), a member of RWJBarnabas Health. The chain, which began with an altruistic donor, is the largest kidney transplant chain to take place at one hospital, currently standing at 46 people and counting!

Drs. Shamkant Mulgaonkar, Chairman, Division of Renal Transplant, and Stuart Geffner, Surgical Director, Renal Transplant Division and Chairman, Department of Surgery, both were interviewed on the show.

It is through the work of the 100+ members of the multidisciplinary kidney transplant team that we continue to revolutionize a transplant candidate’s opportunity to receive a kidney from a living donor and make living donor transplantation available to more patients than ever before.
