Jun 4, 2018 Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton Bringing State-of-the-Art Cancer Care Closer to Home

Hamilton, NJ, June 4, 2018 – Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Hamilton, an RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH) facility, has completed an $8.5 million expansion of their Cancer Center to bring new services and state-of-the-art technology to their physicians and patients.

With the expansion comes the newest and most precise TrueBeam Linear Accelerator technology in New Jersey, offering advanced treatment in radiation therapy and radiosurgery, as well as new PET-CT technology to investigate cancer cells, stage cancer tumors and plan radiation treatment – the only such PET-CT simulation technology available in the local community. The new TrueBeam Linear Accelerator will not only improve precision in radiation treatment, but it will also offer greater patient comfort by significantly shortening treatment times. The expanded Cancer Center will provide additional treatment space for new services, patient comfort and privacy.

RWJUH Hamilton’s Cancer Center expansion reflects the deep commitment by RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey to enhance the community’s health and provide patients with an alternative to traveling long distances for frequent visits.

“Advancements in cancer care have had a tremendous impact on how we can treat this disease in a community setting. Immunotherapy, PET-CT simulation and radiosurgery – these are the latest tools in fighting against cancer – and they are all available right here,” said Richard Freeman, President and Chief Executive Officer, RWJUH Hamilton. “Through our partnership with outstanding physicians, the generosity of donors, and the investment in state-of-the-art technology, we have raised the bar in providing advanced community-based cancer care.

“The science behind radiation oncology is complex and rapidly changing,” said Steven K. Libutti, MD, FACS, Senior Vice President of Oncology Services at RWJBarnabas Health and Director of Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. “Through the multi-million dollar enhancements at RWJUH Hamilton we are now able to provide the latest radiation therapy modalities along with the most advanced treatment options close to home. These upgrades complement the precision medicine, immunotherapy and novel clinical trials, patients already have access to through the partnership between RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.”

The latest advances in medical, radiation and surgical oncology – including precision medicine, genomics and clinical trials – allows RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey to put a cure within reach for patients throughout the state. Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey is the state’s only Comprehensive Cancer Center designated by the National Cancer Institute.

On Thursday, June 7, RWJUH Hamilton will host a ribbon cutting ceremony with VIP reception and community open house at the new Cancer Center, to celebrate the expansion of the facility as well as the expanded access to and delivery of care. The VIP reception and ribbon cutting will begin at 4:00 p.m. Tours will be offered between 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
