Jun 21, 2018 Community Medical Center to Hold Evening Dedicated to Diabetes Awareness on July 24

Toms River, N.J., June 21, 2018 – According to the American Diabetes Association in 2015, 30.3 million Americans, 9.4% of the population, had diabetes and an additional 84.1 million Americans over age 18 had prediabetes. Prediabetes is a condition in which blood glucose levels are higher than normal but are not high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes. People with prediabetes are at increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes and for heart disease and stroke.

To help gain an understand how diabetes affects a person’s overall health and how to manage it for a better quality of life, Community Medical Center is hosting a free symposium on Tuesday, July 24 at 5:30 pm at the Clarion Hotel, 815 Rt. 37 West, Toms River.

Experts will discuss what diabetes is, how to manage it and treatment options. Speakers include Oscar Ortiz, MD, endocrinologist, James V. Pasquariello, MD, bariatric surgeon, Matthew Regulski, DPM, podiatrist, and Karen Hodge, MS, RD, CDE, Registered Dietitian.

In addition, free health screenings will be offered including Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, blood sugar, balance and a sleep test.
