Jul 6, 2018 Chinese Medical Program Launched

Angela LeeSOMERVILLE, NJ, July 6, 2018 - Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset has launched a new Chinese Medical Program with a bilingual patient navigator who will assist in coordinating care for Chinese patients.

“We are committed to providing culturally and linguistically competent care to our community,” said Tony Cava, president of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. “Due to language barriers, many members of the Chinese community do not get the preventive health care services they need and often delay medical treatment when health problems arise. Our Chinese Medical Program will help make it easier for them to access care, which will improve their overall health.”

Angela Lee, the patient navigator for the Chinese Medical Program at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, will assist patients with arrangements for round-trip transportation for medical appointments; finding medical specialists; filling out forms; accompanying them to medical appointments and interpretation and translation.

Lee has more than 15 years of experience serving the Chinese community in the health care and social services fields. A Hong Kong native, she speaks fluent Cantonese, Mandarin and Toishanese dialects.

She previously served as the Director of the Chinese and Russian Medical Programs at Monmouth Medical Center, Community Executive at the American Cancer Society-Asian Initiatives and Associate Director at New York Asian Women’s Center, a community-based organization helping Asian women and children overcome domestic violence.
