Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset has launched two new support groups to help new mothers:
- A free Breastfeeding Support Group is held every Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, 110 Rehill Ave., Somerville. New mothers are invited to bring their babies to share with other mothers the joy and challenges of breastfeeding. A lactation consultant will also offer tips for breastfeeding success, including maintaining milk supply, using a breast pump and preparing to go back to work. To register, call 908-704-3766. Walk-ins also welcomed.
- The “Strong As A Mother” Support Group is held every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, 110 Rehill Ave., Somerville. This peer-led, mom-to-mom support group is for new mothers who are experiencing perinatal mood or anxiety disorders. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset provides a wide-range of services for expectant mothers, newborns and their families, including a Level II Intermediate Care Nursery staffed 24/7 by a board-certified neonatologist and specially trained nurses; a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist available 24/7; 24/7 anesthesiology coverage dedicated to obstetrics; counseling with Maternal-Fetal Medicine staff and a perinatologist; a comprehensive Diabetes Center offering pregnancy and post-partum counseling; a Family Practice Center for prenatal and post-partum care; a lactation consultant for inpatient and outpatient visits; post-partum and infant care classes offered during a patient’s stay so that they are ready for discharge; and childbirth education featuring a wide range of topics for parents, siblings and grandparents.
The hospital’s maternity pavilion, which was renovated in 2016, features all private rooms with overnight accommodations. The renovations included new furniture, flooring, paint and décor, as well as enhanced security systems. All patient rooms feature the GetWellNetwork®, an interactive patient education television system which offers access to the internet, email and videos about health-related topics during a patient’s stay in the hospital.
