Jan 24, 2018 Cycle Red for Heart Disease to Benefit The Heart Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center

To raise support and awareness for heart health, members of the Saint Barnabas Medical Center family host Cycle Red for Heart Disease. This indoor cycling event planned for Sunday, February 25, 2018, features three different 45-minute cycling classes at 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm, at CycleBar, 277 Eisenhower Parkway, Livingston, NJ.

Hosted by Dr. Joel, Janet, Elle and Amanda Braverman, Margie Heller, and Dr. Alan Garten, the event, now in its fourth year, will benefit The Heart Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Past proceeds have funded medical equipment for the Medical Center’s Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) along with renovations to the CTICU Family Waiting Area.

Cycle Red was started in 2015 by Dr. Braverman, an anesthesiologist in the CTICU at Saint Barnabas, who lost his 46-year-old father to heart disease. Ms. Heller, Administrative Director of Community Health and Outreach, became involved a year later as a way of paying tribute to her 54-year-old brother, Howard Weiss, who died of sudden cardiac death.

“Dr. Braverman and I were both motivated to turn our bad personal experiences into something that would raise awareness and that could benefit others, explained Ms. Heller. The Cycle Red event does that and promotes the importance of exercise in staying heart healthy. This year’s Cycle Red will be held in memory of my father, Daniel Weiss, a co-host of the event, who we sadly lost earlier this year.”

The cost per session is $100. All participants will receive a t-shirt and light refreshments will be served. Spin shoes must be worn, but CycleBar will provide shoes to participants who do not have them. To learn more, register, or make a donation if you cannot attend, please visit www.rwjbh.org/cyclered.
