West Orange, NJ, December 4, 2018 –Four RWJBarnabas Health facilities have been recognized as Top Hospitals in 2018 by The Leapfrog Group, an independent hospital watchdog organization. Monmouth Medical Center, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Somerset were recognized as Top Teaching Hospitals while Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) Hamilton was recognized as a Top General Hospital. Widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors an American hospital can receive, the recognition underscores RWJBarnabas Health’s commitment to patient safety and quality.
“We are deeply committed to achieving the highest levels of quality in both care and education throughout the RWJBarnabas Health system,” said John F. Bonamo, M.D., MS, FACOG, FACPE, Executive Vice President, Chief Medical & Quality Officer, RWJBarnabas Health. “We are pleased to have four of our facilities honored with the distinction of Top Hospital by the Leapfrog Group. This award is a testament to the work of a very talented and dedicated team of RWJBarnabas Health professionals.”
Among thousands of hospitals in the country, Monmouth Medical Center, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and RWJUH Somerset are three of only 53 Top Teaching Hospitals recognized nationally and RWJUH Hamilton is one of only 35 Top General Hospitals recognized. The Top Hospital Awards come following each of the hospitals’ “A” Hospital Safety Grade, also from the Leapfrog Group.
Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, maternity care, and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.
To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must submit a Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The selection of Top Hospitals 2018 is based on surveys from nearly 1,900 hospitals. To see the full list of institutions honored as 2018 Top Hospitals, visit www.leapfroggroup.org/tophospitals.
