A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on November 27 to celebrate the completion of the opening of the new Adult Observation and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit at Clara Maass Medical Center, a facility of RWJBarnabas Health.

The new Adult Observation Unit will serve patients that are not well enough to return home and therefore require further diagnostic testing, treatment and care. The Adult Observation Unit has been outfitted with 24 private patient rooms as well as two isolation rooms and it is located on the first floor of the hospital’s new main entrance that opened in Spring 2017. The Post-Anesthesia Care Unit demonstrates a healing environment for those patients who have just undergone a surgical procedure. The Unit is bright and airy with the latest technology available for post-operative patients. The newly renovated Post-Anesthesia Care Unit is located on the 3rd Floor of the main hospital and is connected by way of the Operating Room Suites.

“As part of the largest healthcare system in the state, we are committed to providing the highest quality of care to our patients while making patient safety our top priority.,” said Mary Ellen Clyne, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Clara Maass Medical Center.

The new Adult Observation Unit is part of a larger construction project currently underway at Clara Maass Medical Center. Slated to be complete in 2019, the hospital began the renovations with a new, state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit featuring 32 private rooms, an Intensivist program offering advanced care for those who are critically ill and an enhanced physician office space to increase ease of access for patients. which created a new four-story 87,000 square foot building with a private, new Main Entrance and Lobby, Retail Pharmacy with concierge service, Patient Registration Area, and another level of parking was added to our parking garage.

“Our vision for the future of health continues with a patient-centered design that creates a care journey focused on quality and convenience,” added Dr. Clyne. “We are confident that the expansion and renovations will have a positive impact on the overall patient experience” Clyne stated.

The renovations will continue in the new year with an expansion of both the Adult and Pediatric Emergency Services as well as expanding our private room capacity.
