SOMERVILLE, NJ, April 23, 2018 - In honor and appreciation of military veterans, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset has designated two parking spots in its Rehill Avenue parking garage for patients and visitors who have served in the military. The parking spots are located on the garage’s first floor near the elevator.

In addition, American flag magnets will be placed on the white communication boards in veterans’ patient rooms in honor of their service to our country. The magnets let all caregivers who enter the rooms know that the patients are military veterans, prompting them to thank the patients for their service.

The initiatives were implemented by the hospital’s VETS Business Resource Group (BRG) to help foster a sense of pride and appreciation for military veterans who turn to the hospital for care. The VETS BRG is co-chaired by Glen Bielic of the hospital’s Patient Experience Department and Leo Figueroa, nursing director of the hospital’s Cardiac Pavilion, both of whom are military veterans.
