Cancer Gold Standard Accrediation

West Orange, NJ, July 5, 2017---- RWJBarnabas Health, the largest not-for-profit integrated health care system in New Jersey, has been accredited as a CEO Cancer Gold StandardTM employer for 2017. This prestigious designation recognizes the System for its dedication and commitment to maintaining a high standard of excellence in cancer prevention, early detection and quality care for its employees and their families.

“We are exceptionally pleased that our continued efforts to improve the health and wellness of our employees and their families have been recognized by this preeminent organization,” said Barry H. Ostrowsky, President and Chief Executive Officer of RWJBarnabas Health. “The CEO Cancer Gold Standard accreditation signifies our steadfast commitment to our employees and their families’ health and well-being in protecting them against cancer and reducing the risk for other serious medical conditions. Maintaining a culture which encourages healthy lifestyles demonstrates our mission that Let’s Be Healthy Together.”

The CEO Gold Standard was created by the CEO Roundtable on Cancer -- a nonprofit organization of CEOs devoted to fighting cancer -- in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute, many of its designated cancer centers, and leading health non-profit organizations and professionals. Today, more than one million employees and family members are benefiting from the vision and leadership of employers who have chosen to become Gold Standard accredited.

The CEO Cancer Gold Standard calls for companies to evaluate their health benefits and corporate culture and take extensive, concrete actions in five key areas of health and wellness to fight cancer in the workplace. To earn Gold Standard accreditation,

a company must establish programs to reduce cancer risk by discouraging tobacco use, encourage physical activity, promote healthy diet and nutrition, detect cancer at its earliest stages, and provide access to quality care, including participation in clinical trials.

“As partners with the State’s only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, we strongly value the importance of maintaining and encouraging good health and wellness of our employees and their families,” stated Steven K. Libutti, MD, FACS, Senior Vice President of Oncology Services for RWJBarnabas Health and Director of Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. “We are proud to be recognized as a CEO Gold Standard organization and stand in excellent company with many leading organization members from across the nation.”
