Rutgers Wrestling Partners with Embrace Kids Foundation to Host Blood Drive at RWJUH on April 25

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - Rutgers Wrestling and the Embrace Kids Foundation are teaming up to host a blood drive at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) New Brunswick from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25.

The Blood Drive, which supports children diagnosed with cancer, sickle cell disease and other blood disorders at RWJUH, will take place in the hospital’s Arline and Henry Schwartzman Courtyard.
Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. That means more than 40,000 blood donations are needed every day. That’s why Rutgers Wrestling is working with Embrace Kids Foundation to ensure that local children with cancer, sickle cell and other blood disorders have access to life-saving blood transfusions.

“It's always a pleasure any time we're able to work with Embrace Kids," said Rutgers wrestling head coach Scott Goodale. "Last year's blood drive was a huge success and we're looking forward to matching and surpassing last year's participation numbers this time around. Our program is excited to raise awareness and to get as many people as possible to come out to support this great cause."

Last year’s drive saw 200 donors participate, challenging previous records set at other major blood drives, such as the annual Tackle Sickle Cell drive hosted by current NFL and former Rutgers football stars Devin and Jason McCourty.

“We’re thankful for Rutgers Wrestling and the Embrace Kids Foundation’s support,” says Sally Wells, Business Development Liaison for RWJUH Blood Services. “Because we are an academic medical center, the Flagship Cancer Hospital of Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey and a Level I Trauma Center, our clinicians address some of the most serious illnesses in the state. Blood and blood products serve as a crucial lifeline for our patients. We depend heavily on generous blood donors like Rutgers Wrestling.”
