Saint Barnabas Medical Center Holds a Topping Off Ceremony for the Cooperman Family Pavilion Construction

The transformation of the Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC) campus got one step closer with the Topping Off of the Cooperman Family Pavilion (CFP). The last beam—ceremoniously signed by members of the SBMC community, was lifted more than 5-stories into place on June 21, 2016, as part of the traditional Topping Off ceremony.

“I am proud to celebrate the great progress and the continuation of our perpetual mission at SBMC to improve the health of our communities, train some of the great clinicians in our region and expand programs to touch more and more people throughout our geography,” said Barry H. Ostrowsky, President and CEO of RWJBarnabas Health.

“The Cooperman Family Pavilion will be the cornerstone of our campus and essential to creating an all private room hospital so that every patient will experience the dignity and comfort they deserve,” states Stephen P. Zieniewicz, FACHE, President and CEO, Saint Barnabas Medical Center. “It will be home to a world-class Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; a wonderful new Surgery Center; new state-of-the-art nursing units, and a host of modern and expansive outpatient testing areas,” he continued.

Clifford Blanchard, President of WM Blanchard Construction Company remarked that their company became known for hospital construction in the 1960’s when they built the original SBMC. They are honored to be entrusted with building the new CFP. “It is as much a milestone for WM Blanchard as SBMC,” he continued.

Philanthropist and namesake of the new tower, Leon G. Cooperman, has watched the evolution of Saint Barnabas Medical Center for 50 years and remarked that his family receives their care at SBMC. “We don’t think for a second about going to New York to get surgery, we think about SBMC as we have gotten the best medical care here.”

The Cooperman Family Pavilion, set to open in Summer/Fall 2017, is the cornerstone of the campus transformation which also includes a newly opened parking garage, four new state-of-the-art operating suites, CyberKnife for Radiation Oncology and numerous pocket parks to beautify the growing campus.
