Young Athletes' Sport Injuries

What parents and athletes need to know about sports injuries

Young athletes and their injuries must be treated differently than adult injuries. During a child’s growth spurts, young athletes become more prone to injury because their bones grow at a much faster rate than their tendons do. Also, the many demands of participation in organized sports, may cause some youths to overuse parts of their bodies, which may later develop into problems like Little-Leaguer’s elbow and shin splints, which are common injuries to a growing athlete.

If at any time while treating an injured athlete you are unsure of the directions provided, call emergency medical personnel immediately to help. You should always have professional medical assistance nearby, just in case.
