The Cancer Hospital of New Jersey

The Cancer Hospital of New Jersey at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) is the flagship hospital of Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, New Jersey's only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The hospital's cancer program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Rutgers Cancer Institute offer patients access to the most advanced treatment options including clinical trials, immunotherapy, and precision medicine. RWJUH and Rutgers Cancer Institute are one of only two programs in the state to offer blood and marrow transplantation and CAR T-cell therapy. The Cancer Hospital also offers wide-ranging oncology-focused services including diagnostic, laboratory and pain management.

For children with cancer, The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital at RWJUH houses a pediatric hematology/oncology unit under the direction of physicians from Rutgers Cancer Institute offering age-appropriate care in a family-focused environment.

Imaging Center

The hospital's Women's Imaging Center offers the latest in digital mammography technology, breast, and gynecologic ultrasound. The Center performs stereotactic breast biopsy, ultrasound-guided core breast biopsy and ultrasound-guided fine-needle biopsy, as well as needle-localization for breast biopsy and lumpectomy.

Radiation Oncology

Specialty trained board-certified radiation oncologists at RWJUH and Rutgers Cancer Institute deliver sophisticated radiation therapy in the treatment of cancer, as well as non-malignant tumors, eliminating cancerous cells or tumors while minimizing damage to the surrounding tissue. The Radiation Oncology department houses New Jersey’s only hospital-based proton therapy program as well as precise radiation treatments such as 3D conformal radiation therapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), high-dose rate and low-dose rate brachytherapy, stereotactic body radiotherapy, and stereotactic radiosurgery. Treatments are administered using state-of-the-art technology including linear accelerators, a high-dose brachytherapy unit, a proton therapy unit, and the Gamma Knife unit.

The Cancer Hospital of New Jersey focuses on the whole patient providing education, psychological and social support, as well as spiritual support. Supportive services available for patients at this Magnet Award-winning hospital include the care of a dedicated oncology social worker, an oncology nutritionist, chaplain, numerous support groups, and a wide variety of complementary therapies, including reiki, acupuncture, and massage. All rooms are private. Room-service dining is available and each room has sleeping accommodations for family members.
