Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade A Fall 2022Hamilton Township, NJ, November 28, 2022Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton (RWJUH Hamilton), an RWJBarnabas Health facility, was awarded an “A” Hospital Safety Score ratings by the Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits, in results announced publicly November 16th.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. In a recently released second in a three-part series from The Leapfrog Group examining patient experience during the pandemic, they noted that COVID-19 has impacted health care delivery at every level and setting, from staffing shortages to increased infections to the very care patients receive, and that it has never been more critical to assess patient perspectives.

“It is our responsibility to deliver the safest, most high-quality care to our patients and their families every day,” said Richard Freeman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton. “Keeping our patients safe and providing the best care is our top priority at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton. “We thank our staff, volunteers, patients and donors for working with us to ensure safety, especially as we continue to face challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“The Leapfrog Group tells communities more about things like how well their hospitals prevent infections, how much they value patient safety by supporting strong health care teams and assuring they have protocols and standards in place for preventing errors,” adds Joan Bercari, Vice President, Quality and Patient Safety.

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,700 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
